I want to remind you that the Levis Online Auction is closing at 3PM, Calgary time on Saturday March 12, 2011. In this auction, I have a very strong group of art from many Native Artists ( Carl Ray, Corinna Ray, Eddie Cobiness, Blair DeBassage, Bill Reid, John Laford and Cecil Youngfox)
A bit about Cecil Youngfox: he was born in Blind River in 1942 of Objibway and metis parents, and later after receiving formal training in art, he established himself in Toronto as a highly respected, talented and powerful artist. He left us a significant body of work and was regarded as an artist of great promise. Sadly, he died far too soon – dying of cancer in 1987, at the age of only 45.
He was a named a member of the Aboriginal Order of Canada for his work to encourage First Nations youth.
His very powerful painting Lovers in the Spring, which is a part of the Levis online auction is pictured below.
